The English kind tends to be big-boned, lighter in color and have longer coats. Despite the differences in the look of the two kinds of golden retriever, there are little differences between the general personalities of the dogs within the breed. These dogs are considered as one of the friendliest kinds of dogs. They are also in need of constant company and easily get bored. They are also very active types of dogs; they try to get as much exercise as possible and grab the opportunity to run around whenever they can.Because golden retrievers can be very active, they have to be trained. But most of them are smart and witty and can be easily trained. Once they are trained, they can blend in and settle down with the owners immediately. It is important to immediately train thse dogs so that they can be part of a family or they can perform well (if they are to be guide dogs, law enforcement dogs and such).Start within the first few months it is obtained. It is advised that the they are allowed to socialize with as much people as possible, making them more comfortable in the area. These dogs that are often left alone tend to be shy and anxious, leading to restless behavior such as ceaseless barking. The golden retrievers also have a routine or exercise on a daily basis. This will allow the dog to adjust to the schedule and be active at the same time. Being able to socialize with people and other pets bring positive experiences to this dog breed and is likely to decrease behavioral problems of the dog. Most golden retriever owners do a training procedure called housebreaking. House breaking involves supervising the dog and understanding the dog's body language. Another part of housebreaking is obedience training. This is very important when controlling the pets. Making the retriever understand commands such as stop, eat, stay and other commands would contribute a great deal to the pet-owner relationship. This allows better communication for the golden retriever and the family or person he belongs to. It is best that the dogs are taught some new commands during every housebreaking and training session. Also, training is best done frequently since most of them have a short attention span.Golden retriever training is different when they are still puppies and when they are mature already. One example of this is that retriever puppies are still learning new things. They still have their natural instinct to bite and gnaw and keep on jumping. Thus, when training puppies, it is best to teach them the "no" command whenever they are gnawing on the wrong items or on a person or jumping out of control. Also, puppies are more active than older golden retrievers. They are more likely to have a set personality and behavior. They may be already obedient or have a lot of behavior problems. But the important thing is that training must be done well so that they will be able to fit in their family or make their happy owners proud of them.
