Roller skating is a super popular sport among the young today. Even many small children can skate reasonably well. But every kind sport has its own risk. This article introduces some practical skating skills.

First I must emphasize the importance of basic skills. Many people ignore the basic practice and practice some difficult moves from the beginning. The spectators may take the acrobatic moves to be the symbol of ace but judge people wouldn't think so. After all, laying a strong foundation is the first and most important step. Stability is very important for roller skating.

Stability is the control to gravity. It is embodied in several joints, hip, knee joints, neck and ankle. If you can control the joints, the problem is solved.

Single feet and straight glide forward directed
After you glide forward directed and get the initial velocity, upend your hands on your back. Then make your upper body and knee bent to 60° to the level. Single foot moves ahead by the supporting foot. When do the action, you need to keep your body be forward slightly and put your gravity on the back wheel of the supporting foot.

Single feet and straight glide backward directed
It’s similar in glide forward directed. But it need your body be backward and then lift your leg not the supporting one forward. Keep the posture.

Side direction straight glide
It is the basic skill which often is called crab steps. First, being heel to heel and forming splayfooted. It needs a small angle at the beginning. Then one foot slides emphatically to another side and keep side direction glide. After the speed drops to zero, use your another foot and keep gliding. You can glide straight after you master the side direction glide. Remember keep staring straight forward.

Painting eight
It is a useful method to control stability of inside and outside blades. You can speed up first and being tiptoe to heel. Use inside and outside blades alternately. The action is very stretch and can exercise stability.
