5 Tips For Effective Corporate Team Building

Corporate team building is important, no matter what business you're in. From restaurants, to retail shops to large corporations, making sure everyone gets along and respects each other goes a long way towards building a business that's profitable, efficient and effective. Whether you're looking to add to your team or restructure your current organization, here are five things to look into to make sure your team runs smoothly.

Trust

Trust is important to any team. It doesn't matter if you're on a sports team or a team at work, you have to be able to trust your teammates and know that they're looking out for the best interest of the group.

A prime example of why trust over talent is so important to a team is the 2000 USA men's Olympic basketball team. This team was comprised of some of the most talented basketball players in the world. They were expected to destroy teams from other countries, yet the USA's 'dream team' came in third. This was because each player was out for himself and didn't trust each other. Without trust, teams simply can't achieve their highest levels of performance.

Relationship

It's a given that people work better when they have a personal relationship with each other. This doesn't mean that everyone has to be best friends outside the workplace, but it's a good idea to plan fun teambuilding activities every once in a while so employees can find common ground with each other. Doing this allows team members to connect on a more personal level which leads to a more efficient and effective workplace.

Respect

Trust and respect go hand in hand when it comes to teambuilding. A team member can earn the respect from other members by following through on required tasks and consistently doing what they've agreed to do. Also, a team that respects one another will realize that certain people may be considered experts in specific aspects of the business. A team member who's respected won't be second guessed, leading to a more efficient team.

Balance

Team managers tend to choose people whose personalities match their own. While this may seem like a good idea, it often leads towards teams that are skewed to a specific set of strengths, as well as a specific set of weaknesses. This inevitably leads to teams having blind spots and underperforming in some critical areas. Having a balanced team will sometimes come with conflict, but that conflict is usually healthy as it keeps teams well rounded and focused on everything that is needed to complete projects. When building teams managers should intentionally look for team members that bring a different approach from him/herself in order to ensure a good blend of strengths.

Corporate team building is an essential tool for executives to easily determine and evaluate team dynamics, trust, respect and balance. Additionally, corporate team building can go a long way towards making sure everyone on your team is on the same page. Someone with teambuilding experience will be able to positively and professionally help rejuvenate your team and build trust and respect, while strengthening relationships and achieving balance.

Regardless of the type of business, it is essential for executives to evaluate their teams on an ongoing basis to ensure they have established the most effective and efficient staff possible.
