In order to gain and keep readers, blogging takes time and attention. Increasing blog traffic can be frustrating and it can be difficult to figure out the reasons why. Luckily, we're here to help. Check out our 7 simple reasons why your blog is not gaining any traction, and be ready to make some changes. Good luck!
You are not updating frequently enough
Your blog is your baby; it needs constant attention. Blogging everyday is the ideal situation. If blogging everyday is a struggle, blog at least every other day. Blog visitors expect constant content. If you are not updating regularly, your visitors will either lose interest or they will think that your blog has been discontinued.
You are not mixing and mingling with other bloggers
Blogging is not the time to be shy. Visit the blogs of other bloggers in your field and leave some comments. Join in on their conversations and converse over Twitter. Make other bloggers aware of your presence and make friends with your fellow bloggers. Once other bloggers are aware of your presence, it is likely that they will start visiting your blog and leaving comments themselves. It is also likely that that they will start linking to you when they read one of your posts that they like.
You are not inviting any guests over
This point is related to the previous point. If you are not inviting other bloggers to guest post, it's about time that you start. Guest bloggers can provide you with valuable content whilst also gaining some exposure for themselves. It is a win-win situation.
You are not lending a hand
Reaching out and offering to guest blog for other bloggers is an effective way to publicise yourself and your blog. It will expose your writing to a wider audience and it will also get you a nice little link back to your website.
You are not involving your audience
The beauty of blogging is it allows you to have a conversation with your readers. It is not like a magazine where people read your articles and have no real platform to respond. Ask questions in your blog posts, deal with difficult topics and always respond to your comments. Your blog comments are a great place to engage your audience and further the conversation from your blog post. Take advantage of it.
You need to understand your audience better
It's worth taking the time to really consider who your audience are and what they are interested in reading about. Conduct some polls and surveys to find out more about your audience. The secret of blogging is not simply providing content, but providing valuable content to your readers. By targeting your audience correctly, you will improve your odds of gaining some blog traction.
You are keeping it all to yourself
If you are not sharing your blog posts through social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook, you are missing out on reaching a lot of readers. Ensure that your blog has an active presence on Facebook and Twitter. Inform your fans and followers when you publish a new post. Share your blog posts with people who have written about similar topics. The more people that are aware of your blog, the greater the likelihood of them also visting your blog. This means making sure that your blog's URL is included in your email signature, social networking profiles and business cards.
