A Brief Overview Of Quality Assurance Systems

Quality assurance systems are the codified techniques for evaluating and testing all commercially available goods and services. It’s a certification process that is not limited to fabricated merchandise but also applies to the facilities and services offered by professional entities. It is not an absolute guarantee of reliability but is instead an assurance that the company’s operations meet or exceed the minimum standards set forth by its governing body.

There are many organizations that conduct the examinations required in quality assurance certification. Each industry or product niche has its own recognized authority. A common test that products go through is failure or stress testing. Pushing an item to its breaking point would often reveal hidden defects in the manufacturing process that can then be corrected and remedied.

There are two credos that the testing bodies seek to institute in all manufacturing companies and corporations. It is the fulfillment of these qualities that best define what a high quality product or service truly is.

The first principle states that all good and service should always be “fit for purpose.” This simply means that the merchandise has to actually possess the qualities that consumers buy it for. In other words, quality assurance systems seek to ensure that detergent powders actually remove stains, that a pancake mix can turn into edible deliciousness with just a few cups of water and that your refrigerator will keep your milk fresh and the beer ice-cold.

quality assurance systems also emphasize the importance of “getting it right the first time.” Assembly line errors and defects should be totally eliminated. This is to ensure that each and every iteration of a product that different consumers purchase will all deliver the same performance. It is unacceptable for the same basic item to have varying levels of effectiveness based on the idiosyncrasies of its individual factory source.

In order to keep up with the increasing number of factors that testing agencies have to keep track of, many of them now use product certification software to help manage the data. The centralized and easy to access archive that such programs provide make the testing bodies much more efficient in fulfilling their functions.
