GPS systems are becoming more and more popular all the time and it is because of the many uses people have for them. These GPS systems utilize a network of satellites around the globe to triangulate and locate or point to where things are. A GPS or global positioning system is often being used to locate a person, pet, vehicle or anything else that someone wants to know where it is or keep track of. This makes it ideal to use as a method of keeping track of your pet with a GPS pet tracker.
The popularity of these GPS systems is due to their easy and fast functionality. There are several well known manufacturers of these devices that are making them specifically to help pet owners keep track of their pets. These systems have 2 parts one is the receiver the other is the transmitter. The transmitter is fastened to or built into a collar that is placed on the pet. This is not the only place that the device can be attached though, but it definitely is the most popular. The receiver is used by the pet owner who can see on the units screen a map pointing exactly to where their pet is. That way when your pet gets away or wanders off and you don’t know where they are you simply go to your GPS tracking software and find out exactly where they are at.
GPS trackers are getting smaller all the time and as they do people keep thinking up more uses for them. In the past these systems were being used to track large mammals and birds. While this was true in the past (and even with some units today) for instance a pet had to be about ten pounds for them to have one of these units put on their collar. Today even small animals and birds can be tracked with some of these units.
Some of these devices utilize cell phone technology to send the information about your pet’s location from its collar while others use radio signals. Each of them has their advantages and disadvantages. While the units using radio wave signals work good, but they will only work when you are within a certain distance from your pet.
At the same time, a unit that uses cell phone technology to transmit the information will have a monthly subscription fee (usually attached to your cell phone bill) in order for it to make use of this technology. It will also mean that your pet will have to be within the range of a cell tower for you to be able to receive the information about where they are. The huge positive with this system is that you can find out where your pet is regardless of your how close you are to your pet. This means you could be in England and still be able to know where your pet is at home in the US as long as you have a cell signal.
GPS pet trackers provide a very valuable service to pet owners who sometimes spend more on their pet’s health and well being than themselves. It gives them security assurance for their pets.
