Red wine is the general term for grape wine, which does not only refer to red grape wine. Regarding to the color of the refined product, it can be divided into three categories: red grape wine, white grape wine and pink grape wine. As for the red grape wine, it can be further classified into dry red wine, semi-dry red wine, semi-sweet red wine and sweet red wine. White grape wine, dry white wine, dry white wine, semi sweet white wine and sweet white wine.
As the saying goes, wine grows much better with the year develops. Therefore, many consumers believe that the longer it has been stored, the better it becomes. Some even consider the year as an absolute standard for evaluating the wine quality.
However, does red wine really improve with age? Does it really hold water by taking a close look? Then, we may find the following explanations.
In this regard, the professional wine experts say taking vintage as the absolute standard for evaluating the wine quality is not scientific. There is not necessary relation between its vintage and quality. It is the quality of the grape that determines the taste and quality of the red wine. If the temperature, precipitation and other aspects in a year are more suitable for grape growing, the grapes harvested this year will be much better. Naturally, the grape wine made by the harvested grape will be good.
Only with the juice made in the current year can the vintage be labeled on the bottle of grape wine. Moreover, as the quality of grapes is different in different years, the grape wine made by the different harvested grapes is various too. It is really different from what people have thought, that is, the longer the vintage is, the better the quality is. The vintage of wine can only show us the raw material from which year the grapes harvested. So, the vintage can neither be considered as a measure to evaluate the quality of red wine, nor as a standard for price making.
