Add Convenience To Reading With The Amazon Kindle

Running through the Minneapolis airport with only fifteen minutes to catch my connecting flight, I’m happy for the Amazon Kindle in my bag. Its 8.5 ounces is much easier to carry than several hardcover books.

The Kindle is the wireless electronic-book reading device sold by Amazon. It is skinnier than a paperback, and its reading surface is about the same size as a paperback page. It can store up to 3500 books. Also, Amazon maintains an archive of your purchased books. It comes with built-in Wi-Fi to make buying books and accessing your archive extremely convenient.

The Amazon Kindle can be used for up to a month without recharging. However, with the Wi-Fi on, the charge does not last as long. The reader comes with a charger that allows recharging from a wall socket or your laptop. It takes about 4.5 hours to totally charge the battery.

Two recommended accessories are a reading light and a leather cover. The Kindle is not back-lit which means it can be read in the sun without glare issues, but you can’t read it in the dark. Since this is an investment, a leather case helps to protect the screen while carrying it in a backpack. Choose a light and cover that are compatible with each other.

Over 775,000 electronic books are available in the Kindle format. Many of these, 610,000 are priced under $10.00. Several classics are out-of-copyright, and available for free.

In addition to books, newspapers can also be purchased for the Kindle including the New York Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal. Download magazine favorites such as Newsweek, Time and The New Yorker. Personal documents and PDFs can also be downloaded and read.

The Amazon Kindle provides a new and pleasurable reading experience. It’s lightweight and convenient and costs about the same as a pair of athletic shoes.
