Remember the days when kids wore flannel and ripped up jeans, when listening to 80s music would get you beat up, and going to a rock concert meant jumping off the stage and crowd surfing? Well Addiction Switch is bringing it back.
I had an opportunity to catch these guys with a friend of mine at a small club in Las Vegas called Black Door which is owned by Dave Navarro. The club itself is small, but has that rock n roll feel with wrap around snakeskin couches and killer light shows. The small size didn't stop this band from totally kicking ass. Their guitar player was all over the stage and soloing with the guitar behind his head. The singer has a rich beautiful voice reminiscent of Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes, and sings much like Layne Staley and Scott Weiland.
We didn't know what to expect since most of the Vegas music scene is littered with post hardcore, screamo, and pop, but it was definitely a fresh new sound - a freshness that's truly needed in this local music scene. Their sound could be defined as progressive hard rock with an early 90's overtone reminiscent of STP or Soundgarden, with solid songwriting, and an energetic stage performance. I actually had to ask myself "who are these guys?" We were both quite surprised to see a band of that caliber playing a free show in a back alley bar in Las Vegas.
We will definitely make it back to Black Door the next time they are playing there. The sound tech announced that they play there quite often, so if you're ever in Las Vegas and want to see a class act for free, I highly recommend you stop by Black Door and check out Addiction Switch.
