The Alpi Group was founded in Modigliana, in the Apennine mountains in Italy’s Emilia Romagna region in 1919, a group which has become over the years, a true world leader in the production and marketing of wood veneers.

Continuous investments in research, in developing new ideas, in creating innovative tools for new and improved processes are part of the Alpi Group. One research that is aimed at three directions: study of the way wood reacts to chemical and physical agents (heat, light, moisture, pressure) and of the raw materials used in the various production stages; study and testing of new products and optimisation of the subsequent production process; development of new techniques for use in production cycles.

The Italian operations centre around the Alpi Wood Division, a facility that extends over an area of 150,000 square metres and employs a workforce of more than 650 employees and with the production of Alpilignum, the reconstituted wood that became the group’s flagship product. Alpilignum is a multilaminar wood veneer obtained by glueing, pressing and slicing sheets of dyed wood. It offers almost unlimited scope for producing colours and grains that reproduce high-quality woods as well as creative textures. Multilaminar wood is made from veneers of natural wood (including Italian Poplar) and maintains all the typical characteristics of natural wood. Its main advantages compared to natural wood are surface homogeneity, colour constancy and standard dimensions. Multilaminar wood can be varnished using the traditional coating systems used for other types of wood, doesn’t require special coatings and can be varnished with water-based coatings
