Article Marketing is one of the most popular methods to get targeted prospects to your site and in obtaining conversions. Tools to make the submission & distribution process are abundant and help the process to go smoothly. But this is only part of the entire picture. There are some common mistakes that some people make before they submit the article to the article directories. Let's take a look at some of these now:

Inform Your Target Audience

1. Some people confuse the reason that they are writing the article with the reason to promote them. In article marketing there are 3 primary benefits being derived from promoting your article, promotion of your business, lead generation and branding. These are all part of the optimization effort.

However there should only be one primary reason for writing the article and that is to inform your target audience by giving them substantive content. Without giving informative content then you will fail to succeed in obtaining the 3 primary benefits of promoting your business, lead generation and branding because nobody will be reading your articles. Your goal should be to get the target audience to read your article and want to click on your resource box. This is achievable by giving them good, interesting content.

Promotional Opportunities

2. Many people fail in maximizing the promotional opportunities in article marketing. Your articles will help in generating back links to your site. Realize also that your article can help you get better search engine results and more visitors.

Keywords should be strategically placed but not overdone. A keyword density of 1% to 2% is best. You can also use anchor texts as this is another effective method but it's important to realize that many article directories aren't able to support this.

Also keep in mind that it's not only about the back links that will be a valuable asset to you but when you get picked up by publishers who have a large audience you are leveraging their power by the good quality of your work. This is a tremendous help in getting better organic search engine results.

But these things alone won't line your pockets with money, some other factors in your article marketing can offer up opportunity to help increase your earnings. It's not all about how many visitors you get. You need to start with a plan to make sure that your article serves the purpose that you intended.

Beneficial Content for Your Target Market

3. Another common mistake made in article marketing is publishing content that isn't beneficial to your target audience. If you're thinking that all you want is as many visitors as you can generate by article marketing and as many back links as you can get then think again. Not all article directories will accept your material automatically. Almost all directories have editorial guidelines as to what is acceptable for them to publish your article. It's possible to virtually double the amount of sites where you can submit by writing articles that the article directories want to share with others. It only takes one publisher with mass readers to increase your potential target audience overnight.

In order for your article marketing to be most effective for you then you need to write articles that they want in their publications. So you need to be sure to follow their editorial guidelines, use the spell checker and good grammar, do your research before writing your article and give them good topics. Some of you might even want to hire a good writer to provide excellent content for you.

Overall it's up to you to decide how much or how little your article marketing can benefit you. You can get increased back links on a very basic level and also a small amount of exposure. Or you can ultimately put in a small amount of additional effort to provide great quality content and enjoy massive exposure.

Also realize that when you submit an article to the article directories that it's not intended to get the same level of exposure as an article focused on a narrow group of people which offers very highly targeted content. When you distinguish the difference between these two it helps you know what types of articles to write and submit.
