The totally natural method of acupuncture for infertility is still sought by numerous childless couples who want to improve their fertility. In actual fact, acupuncture is currently the most popular infertility therapy in the alternative health market. For many couples desperately trying to have their first or indeed their second child, the big question must be, does acupuncture treatment for infertility actually work and better still what exactly is acupuncture? These are questions that deserve a certain amount of consideration before you go searching for an acupuncturist who may be able to treat you.

The problems of infertility and Chinese medicine have a long and established association of which acupuncture is becoming increasingly popular. This Far Eastern system of health treatment is based on the belief that the body is made up of energy channels or meridians which allow energy to circulate around the body. These meridians may become blocked, leading to imbalances which in turn cause health problems.

Acupuncturists typically use very thin needles inserted into these meridians at particular points to remove the blockages, allowing the energy to move freely again and, if successful, restoring the body to its normal healthy state.

The question is, how are acupuncture and fertility connected? Acupuncture causes a major problem for scientists and leading Doctors alike as the test criteria needed to evaluate any type of treatment is not easily met by such a natural procedure, hence the term, 'cannot be medically proven' which does not mean it doesn’t work, but and it's a big but, the medical industry will not approve it and hence it is difficult to get your insurance company to pay for this type of treatment.

Of the many arguments your insurer may put forward, the popular one appears to be that, the treatment is not exactly responsible for the cure, as in, it acts like a placebo which in return makes the patient feel relaxed and less stressed leading to an improvement in their health.

It is generally believed that some fertility problems are caused by stress. This is observed sometimes in couples who have been trying and trying to get pregnant, but with no joy, as soon as the stop trying, hey presto, they conceive! Anxiety, stress and tension is a vicious cycle as getting in this state about getting pregnant will actually make it harder to conceive. In many cases, getting pregnant is one of those things where the harder you try, the more difficult it becomes.

But if reducing stress is really the only reason why acupuncture is successful as a fertility treatment, then it is not at all clear why it is so very popular. There are many other methods of stress reduction which ought to be equally effective and are probably less expensive, like meditation, aerobic exercises, pilates, yoga and even laughter.

Although non-exacting there is evidence which suggests that acupuncture is more successful than these other procedures for certain types of infertility. It would seem to work best when applied to functional problems like a non regular menstrual cycle, inflammations and hormone imbalances. It is not so successful with problems that would respond to surgery for example blockages in the sperm ducts or fallopian tubes.

Although I have to add that even with some of the more physical problems all is not lost. A combination of acupuncture, holistic, nutritional plus other Chinese medicinal procedures has produced many extraordinary results for a lot of young couples trying to get pregnant. Including those with:

Tube obstructions
PCOS
Uterine Fibroids
A history of miscarriages
plus many more....

If you are suffering from fertility problems. Infertility sufferer, Chinese Medicine Research Alternative Heath, Nutrition specialist and more importantly currently a Mother of two! Has a very significant number of incredibly happy new Mothers who also had Infertility problems, several of them got pregnant within only two months! So, as I wrote previously in this article all is not lost..

The established medical profession and your insurer may not agree, but the proof is in the pudding. Acupuncture has been used to treat infertility with success for many many years and I suppose will continue to be used, whether it can be measured or not.
