Basic CRB Check to Get Honest Employees

A highly progressive step to establish a body to augment crime free working, the CRB or Criminal Record Bureau was established under Part V of the Police Act 1997. An Executive Agency of the Home Office, CRB provides accessibility on criminal records of the people to organizations and applicants.

Launched in March 2002, CRB was an outcome of public concern about the safety of children, adolescents, and olds. Standard CRB checks are meant ideally for FSA Approved persons, solicitors, explosives handlers, etc. An organization can fill CRB Application form and get a copy of any criminal records the potential employee has in police with the help of Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA). The application for CRB is filed during the recruitment process; the authority comes up with all criminal records if any from 10 years age onwards of the person. One important feature in CRB application is that only organizations can do so; an individual cannot apply for CRB.

Available in two levels e.g. standard, and Enhanced, CRB is a certificate issued to the applicant and the organization. It reveals information with respect to convictions and cautions, reprimands and warnings, etc. about the candidate. The fundamental aim behind such a system is that there should be safe, fair and just decision with respect to recruitment and criminals are not hired in some sensitive sectors wherein life and property can be endangered by an employee.
