For the second consecutive year, Basil Ts in Red Bank is the recent recipient of the Best Beer award from the 2010 New Jersey Monthly’s Readers’ Choice Restaurant Poll. This year, Basils also took home the Best Brew Pub Award. The poll was conducted by NJ Monthly magazine and results were tabulated by PricewaterhouseCoopers in Florham Park. Basil Ts won both awards for the Central New Jersey category.
The original Basil T’s Italian restaurant and brew pub in Red Bank is best known for their award-winning menu made of entirely homemade, authentic Italian cuisine and their on-site award winning brewery. Basil features a minimum of 6 hand crafted ales each season, all brewed by brew master Gretchen Schmidhausler.
Gretchen Schmidhausler has been brewing beers for over 14 years and is a graduate of the American Brewers Guild's Craftbrewers Apprenticeship Program, in Woodland, CA. She is only the second Head Brewer in Basil's history, taking over for Bob Hettmansperger in September of 2000.
Gretchen's work has garnered her national recognition. For The Original Basil T's Maxwell's Dry Stout, she has won:
• Gold Medal Winner, 2006 Great American Beer Festival (GABF), "Classic Dry Irish Stout"
• Bronze Medal, 2003 GABF, "Coffee Flavored Beer"
• Gold Medal, 2002 GABF, "Coffee Flavored Beer"
Basil Ts was also voted “the best" micro brewery in Monmouth County in the 2009 Asbury Park Press Reader's Choice Awards.

About Basil T's
Basil T's Brewery and Italian Grill has been adding flavor to the Monmouth County culinary scene for over 20 years. Since its founding in 1988, the restaurant has been exclusively owned and operated by the Ratio family. They've handed down the reins and the recipes from generation to generation, but their commitment to authentic Italian cuisine has never wavered. Current proprietor Victor Rallo, Jr. insists that "homemade" should be more than just a buzzword - so at Basil T's everything from the pastas to the sauces to the desserts is made on-site. The restaurant also features an in-house brewery, where award-winning ales, stouts, and seasonal brews are handcrafted by a dedicated brewer. These beers are complemented by a wine list that includes more than 220 selections and has received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for 3 consecutive years.
