Andy’sperformance can be heard on the Waste King website at www.wasteking.co.uk   The new regulations came into force in the light offigures, such as those on the ‘recycle more’ website ( www.reclcyle-more.co.uk ), that onlythree per cent of batteries are currently recycled - leaving 22,000 tonnes ofhousehold batteries to go into landfill sites where they can leak harmfulchemicals into the soil. Further details of the new regulations can be found at http://www.batteryback.org/   In particular, the new regulations state that anyorganisations supplying a total of more than 32 kilos of batteries per yearmust have a scheme to take back old, used batteries for free. This includeshaving collecting bins for old batteries on-site and it involves a commitmenton the part of the supplier to recycle these returned batteries.   Earlier in the month, Andy and his colleague from WasteKing, Glenn Currie , brought theirrecycling and environmentally friendly waste management skills to BBC 3CR whenthey were guests in ‘The Expert Hour’, part of Lorna Milton’s afternoon show.Among other things, Andy and Glenn explained how to dispose of the ephemera ofthe Christmas and New Year celebrations in the most environmentally friendlyway.   “Radio – especially local radio – has a key role to playin helping people to become more aware of waste issues, including the need formore recycling,” said Andy Cattigan .   “At Waste King, we’re happy to provide advice and guidanceto as many people as possible on all aspects of recycling and environmentallyfriendly waste disposal.
