There are many strategies to choose from. But howdo you approach planning your marketing strategy? MarketingMusic Thinkabout putting your marketing strategy together like learning a new piece ofmusic. Inmy choir at church, we have the following instruments: piano, lead guitar, rhythmguitar, bass guitar, drums, and of course voices. During practice, we usually reviewand practice each part of a song and then add it all together. So you end upputting together different parts to play the music. We’re effectively addinglayers to the song. Atour last practice, the rhythm guitar player’s youngest son was with him. He wasprobably no older than 8 or 9. While we were singing, the son walked over tothe bongo drums that were sitting along the wall and started playing while wewere singing. Iwas amazed. Heplayed the bongo drums so well it was like he had played them his whole life. And what was so awesome about his playing is that the extra “layer” of sound headded gave a tremendous depth to the music. That extra layer made the musicmore alluring, drawing you into the whole song at an emotional level. MarketingLayers Thesame idea happens with your marketing strategy. You start with one strategy.Once you master it, you learn and add another strategy. You begin to add “layers”with each new strategy and each layer adds more depth to your marketing music. Beforeyou know it, you have a marketing master piece. TheAccumulative Effect Theadditional depth of your marketing gives your marketing richness and makes youmore attractive. Each layer you add is like a new part you’re adding to yourmarketing music. Peoplewill find you more credible, will seek you out for guidance and advice, andthey may actually join you in business or purchase your service or product. Theeffect of adding layers of strategies to your marketing will actually drawpeople to you. Thinkingof your marketing strategy as a piece of music will help you keep the rightperspective as you develop and build your strategy. And it won’t be asintimidating if you realize you need to practice each part and then add it inas a permanent part of your repertoire. Bythe way, the lead guitar player is also his son, so I guess playing instrumentsmust run in the family.
