Most of us probably think that Hollywood, and especially Beverly Hills has some sort of 100 GB ultra-super power T1 internet connection. However, this is the furthest from being true. In fact a large portion of the people that live in places like Beverly Hills only have an internet connection option of high speed satellite internet service. Why is this you might ask? Well, it is because people in these types of areas often own such large estates, which in result leads to a very densely populated area. The truth is that it is just too expensive for terrestrial internet companies to set up the equipment needed to expand their network to these types of areas. It is hard to think of anything being too expensive for the residents of Beverly Hills, but unfortunately they are not the ones calling the shots in this scenario. The cable and DSL companies are under strict regulations and they have to be careful that they treat all customers fairly and equally, even the ones in Beverly Hills.
This puts some of the country's richest and most famous citizens in the exact same boat with rural America, which is traditionally thought of as the target market for satellite internet services. The beauty of satellite internet service is that it does not have to worry about setting up a ground network for a specific geographical location. Granted it does have major upfront equipment costs that involve launching the satellite into space and what not. However, once these primary fixed costs are out of the way it can more or less provide high speed internet service to an entire nation.
I have written several articles pertaining to the advancement of satellite internet service in America, so if you keep up with my blog you have probably heard this many times, but I think the infrastructure offered by satellite service internet is unparalleled. The simple fact that it does not require a significant amount of terrestrial networking puts it miles ahead of the other types of internet connections speeds. I agree that it does have some room to improve in latency and throughput, but that will come as advancements in technology develop. Just think when satellite internet service becomes main stream the farmers, rural Americans, and of course the citizens of Beverly Hills will all be thought of as pioneers of the industry. What are your thoughts on the future of this industry? Did it surprise you to know that the people in Beverly Hills are likely using a satellite internet connection?
