Acknowledge breast cancer myths and facts
It is important to let the people know the facts about breast cancer so they can clear their misconceptions. You can educate people about these myths and facts by participating in various events this month. It will be good to meet people at the event and share your knowledge with them to improve their awareness. There are several myths regarding this disease that you need to know and improve your awareness. Below are some of the common breast cancer myths:
All breast lumps are cancerous
Many women believe that lumps in their breast are signs of breast cancer. They feel disturbed and anxious by discovering any lump in their breasts. In fact, there is no need to get worried if you detect a lump. This is because more than 80% of lumps in breasts are non-cancerous.
Breast-feeding increases the risk of getting breast cancer
Many women think breast-feeding can lead to higher chances of getting breast cancer. This is not true because breast-feeding actually helps in reducing the breast cancer risk. It is better to breast-feed your newborn to reduce chances of getting this disease.
Having no breast cancer risk factor can save women from getting breast cancer
This is not true because there are many women who have breast cancer and they did not have any breast cancer risk factor. However, having one or more risk factors increase the chances of getting the disease but it does not ensure only women with breast cancer risk factors are at risk. Breast cancer can affect you at any stage of your life regardless of what your age, gender or risk factors are.
