Miami nicknamed “the South American capital of North America” for all of the Latinos who have made Miami their home, has welcomed Brazilians more heartily than any other South American group.

Brazilians are fond of luxury and have lots of cash to spend, thanks to the healthy Brazilian economy. They’re flocking to South Florida and dropping millions of dollars on items that are less expensive in the U.S. than they are in Brazil – cars, art, vacation condos, clothing, jewelry, and furniture.

Although the economy of the United States and Europe are in the throes of a recession, Brazil’s economy continues to grow at a rapid rate due to exports, a healthy manufacturing base, and a plethora of natural resources. Brazil now has the sixth largest economy in the world, just behind Britain. Brazil’s unemployment rate was 5.8% this past October.

Brazilians particularly love to use cash, ranking first in spending among the top ten groups of foreign visitors to the US. This puts them above visitors from France, Britain, and Germany. In 2010, 1.2 million Brazilians visited, spending almost $5 billion. This breaks down to almost $5,000 per visitor. Indian and Chinese visitors spent more per visitor but there were many fewer visitors from each country Atlanta Condos..

Florida residents are thrilled with this boost to their economy and are coming up with all sorts of ways to keep Brazilians visiting and spending. Realtors, for example, are often able to offer Brazilian visitors services like interior decorating, concierge help, and legal and visa advice all in the same place. Some realtors have opened shop in Brazil to expedite the process.

Even shopping malls are getting into the act, hiring clerks who speak Portuguese to sell designer items. Even Target’s help wanted signs are in Portuguese. Brazilian restaurants are cropping up all over Miami. Giraffas, a well-known Brazilian chain is bringing special Brazilian cuts of meat and the popular Brazilian cheese bread. Everywhere you go in Southern Florida; you’ll see air kisses and hear “Hola” and “Oi,” two Brazilian greetings.

The United States Department of Commerce expects more Brazilian visitors this year than last. In fact, the economic impact of Brazilian visitors has been so strong in the travel, food, lodging, and retails industries that all of these industries have been pushing in Washington to allow Brazilians to travel sans visas, just as those living in the European Union do. Since November the visa process has been expedited by the hiring of more consular officers Buckhead Condos
