With job loss on the rise most Americans know how important it is to have health insurance. If we are lucky enough to have a great job but misfortune to have lost it COBRA is there to help us. This mandatory system gives us the opportunity of keeping our health insurance and for some people they may not have many options but for others a blessing. COBRA can be such a life saver. It is absolutely necessary to read your policy thoroughly, you may discover that some COBRA plans have strict rules and guidelines they must follow and that may not pertain to you and your families needs. Understand all your rights, terms and fees are before proceeding with COBRA. The glory of COBRA is that you get to keep your coverage without any interruption and for families that have several medical conditions at one time it is crucial that they keep their coverage. If you were dropped you would have to deal with pre-medical condition and that's not going to fair to well. This is what makes COBRA so great is they allow you to maintain coverage with a pre-existing condition as if you never skipped a beat. Loosing your job is bad enough but imagine loosing your health insurance at the same time. Some employers may not even carry you once your fired. Unfortunately COBRA is only short term, it's meant to hold you over for two years or so while you search for other options. You can always keep the current policy but at an inflated premium. If your in great health you might find a less expensive health insurance, these people have less to worry about as their options are more friendlier but if you have a pre condition it could get tricky and extremely costly. It's a good feeling to have COBRA at your side but keep in mind it is a solution that will run out of time. Make sure you know what coverage is best for you and your family. If your company changes insurance carriers don't feel that you have to get stuck with them. Start your homework immediately after termination and learn about your options and don't be afraid to ask questions. Remember a COBRA can be your friend.
