How to lose weight? A common question that chubby or heavy person may ask. A better question is How to lose weight quickly? And for a more specific question, can I lose weight by swimming? Am not here to discuss or give some tips on how to lose weight or how to lose weight quickly. Instead this article is focus more about losing weight and swimming.
“Swimming to lose weight” or “swimming makes you lose weight” is a phrase that you may have probably heard more than once. Some may argue, some may agree, but the fact of the matter is, the mentioned statements have some valid basis. More often than not, have you seen a heavy or chubby swimmer? By swimmer, I meant people whose passion, hobby, or work is swimming. It is very rare to see a professional swimmier that is out of shape and overweight. So how can it be argued that swimming does not contribute to weight lost?
People that have passion for swimming are slim, fit, and have athletic bodies because they have been swimming for the longest time. Maybe the right question to ask is how fast and effective are the results. Questions like “can swimming help to lose weight” or “how fast can swimming lose weight”
It is not advisable to use swimming if a person’s goal is to lose weight fast or develop muscles quickly. Swimming to lose weight fast is impossible. It is a fitness sport and cardiovascular exercise, it is an exercise good for the heart. It is a compounded exercise that uses mind, body, arms, legs, and breathing coordination. Swimming shapes and tones the muscles if done daily or on a routine. To lose weight fast and develop muscles quickly, aerobics and weight training are more suited and preferred.
Actually, any type of exercise or workout will contribute to weight loss. Be it jogging, boxing, push-up, pull-ups, basketball, etc… Calories are burned during a workout which is the reason for losing weight. Swimming to lose weight quick is quite ridiculous, instead a better and more practical idea is “swimming to help lose weight” if you have the time, persistence, and devotion for it.
To acquire faster and effective results, calories must be burned faster. This can be achieved by doing the more complex strokes rather than the average freestyle. Make note of your initial time and steadily increase it when you notice your body has adapted to your existing routine. Don’t start strong and overtrain yourself. Start with a few laps and increase it overtime. Always keep in mind that swimming to lose weight quick is not the primary goal. Initially starting at long hours and at multiple laps will not decrease your body weight fast, but will force your body and may do more harm than good. Also, as researched, swimming in cold water is not advisable since it increases appetite more. Swim on waters with neutral temperature so that you won’t eat and gain more calories after the workout.
