90%of Persian carpets, both the old ones and the new ones, are beingproduced in homes to provide an extra income to the household. Amongthe people living in villages on the countryside and among thenomads, it is the women who is weaving carpets which are to be soldat the market. Their husbands do normally take care of the cattleand the farming. Asthe villagers move to the cities to seek jobs and the cities expandtowards the villages, this trend is slowly changing. Agricultureis being industrialized, and factories are being built on placeswhere the people used to have their cattle before. Today, when the nomads become more resident, a great part of the nomadicculture is dissapearing. Onereason reason to their changed behavoiur, is that they find areaswhere the conditions are good and where they have the possiblity tostay for longer periods. Therefore they do not have to move around.Slowly, they are changed into some kind of "resident nomads".Today most nomads use jeeps and motorcycles as transport vehicles. In Europe many people have the picture of a nomad and his camel. Handmadecarpets are already in short supply and they are becoming more andmore difficult to find. Back in time carpet buyers could easily find and buy hundreds of nomad carpets at the same time.Today it is a challenge to even find one single buy! Overthe past years the lack of access and the increased inquiries havecontributed to heavy price rises on almost all oriental carpets. Especially the persiancarpets. Theseconditions counts more or less even for smaller Persian workshopcarpets. Persiancarpets are nevertheless still very cheap in proportion to thequality mainly for two reasons:  the persian carpets are made as a hobby in the homes by the women and they do not charge in proportion to thework they put in. The sinking Iranian currency (Rial) which did not have the same effect on the price rises as in Western currency.
