If you are heading to Texas, fishing would definitely be one of the activities that you must have on your list. As it turns out, the state has quite a lot of good fishing grounds and plenty of fish to catch. And whether you are a professional angler looking for more challenge in the sport, or an amateur simply wanting to spend the weekend with your buddies, you will definitely find something to your liking here.
But of course, before you head and cast your bait in the Texan rivers, you need to arm yourself with the right gear. Of these, the fishing rod is, of course, the most important one that you need to get. And while the professionals are already all too familiar with this, the newbies and the casual fisherman would often get it all mixed up.
The very first thing that you need to consider here is the place that one would be fishing in. it should be noted that there are actually different kinds of rods that are suited for different water environments. However, you need not to buy all of them at once (in fact, that would be a rather silly move). Instead, you need to choose one that you will most likely use for your first few fishing trips. In the case of occasional anglers, rods designed for river fishing would be alright.
On the other hand, another common common criteria used by anglers in choosing a rod is the overall feel of the thing. This one is actually a bit on the subjective side, as it will be different for every person. However, there are still a few things to be considered here, including the weight of the entire rod, as well as the level of control that it would give. It would be a good idea if you already would be familiar with this so that you will be able to determine which rod will suit your taste.
It should also be noted that choosing the kind of line that you will be feeding the rod would also be important. You need to keep in mind that the line would be essential in landing the fish that you intend to catch. Line are usually classified in terms of weight, while rods can be outfitted with lines of up to a certain weight.
Finally, the portability of a fishing rod is also something worth looking for. While most rods are done in one piece, rods broken down into several pieces are also quite common. These can usually be taken apart or collapsed (in case of telescopic rods) for easy storage. However, one thing that you need to take note of is that the larger the number of pieces in the rod, the less likely that it will have a sort of natural feel to it.
