Oftentimes, you are too focused rehearsing answers to common job interview questions and practicing a firm handshake that you tend to overlook one crucial part of the whole process – closing a job interview with a lasting impression.

According to career experts, the closing part of a job interview is your last chance of closing the deal and getting the job. To help you get off on the right track, here are the top 4 expert tips in successfully closing a job interview:

Get Additional Information

Do not leave the job interview empty-handed. Get the names, titles and contact information of the people you talked with including those people you think are unimportant because you do not know who has the pull. You can then use these contact information to follow-up later.

Know What Happens Next

No matter what job you are applying for, whether it is accounting jobs, education jobs, retail jobs, administration jobs or sales jobs, be sure to ask the next steps in the process. Will there be another round of interview? Is the company ready to hire? How soon does the hiring manager expect to move into the next step? You might think it is awkward to ask these questions but, according to experts, it is totally appropriate for job interviewees to ask them.

End the Job Interview with the Right Impression

After thanking the interviewer, ask straight out whether you have a good chance of getting hired or moving into the next level. It may seem a little outspoken, but this will give the interviewer an idea that you are really interested to be part of their team.

A positive response does not necessarily mean you get the job but the interviewer surely sees you as a strong candidate for the job offer. If you received a non-committal answer – like there are still many candidates to interview – it is best to ask information about the hiring process.

Lastly, do not forget to send a thank you note.
