Because of low literacy in our country, consumers are not aware oftheir important status in the society. The article will bring into focus on theimportance and role of customers in the society and the immediate need toprotect these rights. Ensuring consumer welfare is the responsibility of the State.Accepting this fact, policies have been structured. To protect consumer rights ConsumerProtection Act, 1986 was introduced. A separate Department of Consumer Affairs was also created inthe Central and State Governments to exclusively focus on ensuring the rightsof consumers as enshrined in the Act. The Act has been regarded as the mostprogressive, comprehensive and unique piece of legislation. Our Government hasassigned us certain civil liberties and certain consumer rights . Government has amended six rights for thecustomers. The six rights are   Right to Safety Right to Information Right to Choice Right to be heard The Right to Redress The right to consumer education   These rights are of utmost importance to us. Under theconsumer protection Act, a consumer can make a complaint on issues related toviolation of consumer rights . Aconsumer is a person who buys any goods or hires any service for a price. Ifthese above laws are not legally followed by any consumer or an organization thenone can file a consumer complaint. A Consumer Complaints is a legal way of accomplishing one’s demand. Complaints can be made againstunfair trade practices by which complainants suffer loss or damage; goods thatsuffer from one or more defects and deficient service and even callous orreckless behaviour of any organization or a person concerned. The violation ofrights need immediate complains. Online consumer complaints forum are also availablenowadays.   Consumer Forum is a platformwhich enables a person to make complaints and offers solution to a problem. Thisis an easy way to file one’s complaints. But liberalization and globalization has brought somepositive changes in the marketing scenario and even for the welfare of theconsumers. The rights and laws need to be thoroughly implemented so that no oneis victimized.
