it depends on how you want to play . what sort of "player" are you? are you a straight up smashmouth ass kicking son of a *****. Do you like to sit back, and take enemies from a distance? or do you like to take the heal, revive, and light attack role. In a word, Each DPS class has some VERY useful abilities for DPS in DC Universe Online.

using the rifle or bow and arrow would be good for you, or dual pistols. fire would be a great option for your ability, and as far as mentor, it depends on if youre a villain or a hero. superman is great for hero, as for villains, i prefer lex luthor or circe for her magical abilities, joker is okay, but not the best. youd be better of as a hero using batman. movement is up to you, super speed, super acrobatics, or flying.

the dual pistol has weak damage at long ranges if i remember correctly. the rifle is a great alternative though. and i honestly prefer superman. he seems to give you great opening stats for attack.

The rifle can be automatic , has some fun abilities, and unlike the other powersources actually DOES function as well using it's ranged attacks as it does using melee.(the bow and dual pistols CAN DO decent ranged attacks but in the end you'll always end using the melee ones).

All the hero mentors are a tad bland. The two standouts for the mentors (personality and voice wise) are joker and circe plus your infosource (oracle for the heroes and calculator for the villains) is much more comical and interesting as a villain. If you must play a hero I'd say just go batman (if you don't mind it being nighttime all the time in gotham), and if you REALLY want to be in metropolis go with superman.
