Deep Thoughts Triggered by Frequent Earthquakes in Recent Years

An increasing number of large-scale and heavy earthquakes have hit all over the world in recent year, for instance, Sichuan Earthquake in China in the year of 2009, as well as Chile Earthquake and Haiti Earthquake in the year of 2010. People around the world have witnessed such heavy earthquake disaster that we must an initial thought on why earthquakes stick across the whole world more and more frequently. Earthquakes have sounded alarm that human being must have a sense of urgency against catastrophe. The devil is not immune to mankind-the enemy of earthquake. Therefore, we need not only to know how to reduce the possibility of occurrence of earthquake, but also to study how to predict and prevent it. The first thing we have to understand is that a lot of problems have been exposed from frequent earthquakes. They are as follows: We all wonder what have caused such catastrophe, natural phenomena or man-made. Natural disaster struck across the world more seriously than ever before, namely, snow storm happened in the south of China which is followed by hand, foot and mouth disease, heavy earthquakes around the world and global warming. These must arouse our attention to think about what they indicate? Understandably, all of these disaster results from human’s error behavior which bring about serious environmental problems which can be avoided if human beings pay much more attention to environmental protection. We should learn a meaningful lesson from all of these and start from scratch to protect the environment, including saving water , trying not to fell trees indiscriminately, less smoking and less driving, in order to keep environment clean. The earth, like our mother, has risen us from generation to generation so that we must learn how to appreciate her and how to protect her. The same mistakes should not happen again. And then seismic consequences have told us that we do not have high technology to predict the earthquakes. For example, more than 80,000 lives were killed in Sichuan earthquake, however, the reports surfaced after it and never stopped. People want to ask why they are not informed in advance about the earthquake information in order that they can make enough preparation to relive it. Although it is a big problem to predict earthquake worldwide, this is not an excuse to deny the possibility of prediction. Take an easy example, the only person who can land on the moon was Chang-E in the mind of mankind thousands of years ago, but earth people had a first intimate contact with the moon in 20th century. Science is the exploration to unknown world, in other word, the process to develop science is the process to conquer the unknown world. In 1975, China successfully predicted the Haicheng earthquake, the result of which is that only more than 1300 residents were killed, accounting for 0.016% of whole population, which is the first and only time human successfully predicted earthquake in the world. Therefore, developing high technology to predict earthquake attaches a vital importance to relive the catastrophe caused by earthquake.
