A dependable and highly functional house alarm system involves more than just picking out a product and paying the bill. You will need to work closely with the contractor to design a top-notch house alarm that delivers the best protection for your family.
House alarms are supplemented by solid locksets and well built exterior doors. They function best when the alarm system has been set up to monitor the most vulnerable locations and when the perimeter of the property is covered. Planning is what will create the very best house alarms – planning and design.
Top Quality Materials
It starts with top quality materials in and around your home. All windows and doors should be rated for strength and durability as well as energy efficiency. The front and rear doors should be heavy duty and offer a formidable barrier on their own. Look for solid timber, preformed steel or composite doors for the highest amount of strength.
Locks on all windows and doors should also be high quality. Pay special attention to all of the locking mechanisms on the ground floor especially. Are they adjusted well and locking up tight? Is there a secondary locking system should the first one fail? Can you count on the durability of this product? The answer to all of those questions should be yes when designing the best alarm system.
Vulnerable Locations
Design your house alarm to cover all areas that are vulnerable to break ins. Places like the ground floor entrances, as well as any windows on the first floor and any leading into the basement that can be climbed through, should garner your attention in the design stage.
If there is a set of stairs or another climbable surface you’ll need to have coverage on the second and third floors as well. Cover your home adequately and the house alarm system will cover you. The border of your property is not likely to be part of the main area. For those locations a motion sensor activated light may work well and large fences with lockable gates can give another added level of security.
Do not forget to use It
That’s the bottom line for house alarms – if you are going to the purchasing a house alarm, be sure to take the time and design it properly. Then use the alarm system diligently to protect your family and home. Otherwise the system is a useless bit of wire and plastic in your home.
House alarms are a valuable addition to your home along with other security methods such as adding cheap double glazing, and when used properly, will give you more peace of mind and better relaxation.
