Distribution Transformer: uses, advantages and installation

Transformers, well-organized machines, are in general built of copper or aluminum. Copper has roughly greater conductivity then of aluminum thus often preferred in transformer construction.

A number of transformers are used for uninterrupted power supply like...

1. Step up transformers
2. Step down transformers
3. Isolation transformers
4. Distribution transformers

Below we will see classification, mostly used material and installation of distribution transformers

A distribution transformer is a transformer that provides the final voltage transformation in the electric power distribution system and ranging from 25 KVA to 5000 KVA with all voltage class and up to 33 KV.

Classification of transformer: - this sort of transformer can be classified into two categories and size of a distribution transformer depends upon the type of service.

(1) Distribution Transformers: - Distribution transformer is an electrical transformer that is used to carry electrical energy from a primary distribution circuit to a secondary distribution circuit according to SIZE.

(2) Power Transformers: - Are used for transferring power from every part of the system flanked by the generator down to the primary distribution system according to SIZE.

Use:- Distribution transformer is an electrical transformer that is used to hold electrical power from a primary distribution circuit to a secondary distribution circuit. Electrical energy is accepted through distribution transformers to minor high voltage level on distribution position down to end-use levels. This can also be used to transfer current within a secondary distribution circuit or to the service circuit. These transformers decrease the voltage supply of the primary circuit to the amount of voltage preferred by the consumer.

Advantage: - One of the major advantages of distribution transformer is that they have outstanding capability to survive overloads and Tailor-made to suit customer requirements.

Common Application :-
:- Transmission lines
:- Radar systems
:- Photocopying machines
:- Test control and measuring systems
:- Safety alarm and lighting plants
:-Tool Machines
:-Data processing equipment

Installation :-

Distribution transformer close to the load center must meet avoid the volatile, flammable, filthy low-lying areas of serious and supplies high-pressure line assortment, low pressure outlet should be simply accessible, and to facilitate the structure, operation and maintenance.

Situate the minor side of the transformer. Most transformers include a phase A, for 120-volt output, and phase B, for 240-volt output and a center tap for ground.

Distribution power transformers are normally not greater than the radius of 500m. Supply voltage deviation must satisfy: 380V to ± 7; 220 to – 10% +7%.

Connect the high-voltage utility power lines to the input terminals of the transformer. Some transformers have these terminals marked as H1 and H2.
