Diving, snorkelling and scuba diving are very common way to spend holidays in Thailand. Thailand has very beautiful reefs and shipwrecks. Diving in Thailand is an increasingly popular hobby and a way to spend some quality time on holidays.
Thailand is very good place to dive because under sea visibility in some dive sites can be up to 30 metres with coral gardens, undersea rock formation, hard and soft corals, sharks, manta rays and shipwrecks. There are also many different options in diving to choose from. For example you can dive, scuba dive, snorkel or choose one or more diving courses from PADI diving courses.
In Thailand there many great dives sites in two areas, Andaman Sea on the west and The Gulf of Thailand on the east. The best times to dive in the Andaman Sea is from November to April and also from June to September. The best time to dive in Gulf of Thailand is from May to September but you can dive year around.
Phuket
Phuket Island has many nice dive sites and the biggest diving centre in Thailand. The reefs around Phuket are in good and healthy condition with hard corals and colourful soft corals. There is also plenty of marine life in the reefs of Phuket. Most of the dive locations are suitable for all divers but some of the sites are quite deep.
The most famous dive site in Phuket area is Racha Yai with its sloping rocky reefs and its rich solid coral forests. There is also Ter Bay, where is a beautiful shipwreck in the depth of 15-25 meters. In the South area, there are Racha Yai and Racha Noi which are paradises to experienced divers because there the depths are greater and the currents are stronger. The overall topography of Racha Yai is considerably different from others with its huge granite boulders and the chance of seeing manta rays and whale sharks.
Just outside Phuket is the limestone island called Koh Doc Mai which rises vertically from the seabed. Koh Doc Mai is a home to a wide range of fish and it offers opportunity to view leopard sharks, moray eels, octopuses and turtles.
