Hotel stewards need to know what’s out there. They should be men or women who frequently travel. In truth, this should be a requirement. A steward is not just someone responsible for the well-being and comfort of hotel guests, but also someone who is in the position of trust. A good steward is judicious. He must ensure that the comfort and welfare of the hotel’s guests are secured.
A steward should be educated. He should also possess good judgement. Most of all, he should be honest. It doesn’t matter how good he is at his job or how well educated and experienced he is. Those things do not matter if the person is dishonest. Honesty is an important ingredient in a steward’s job.
A good judgment is also important for this job. He should know how to weigh circumstances and how to come up with a good decision, taking all things into consideration. He should know how to adapt to circumstances because he will be dealing with different people from varied background on a daily basis.
Nowadays, the duty of a hotel steward involves the following:
1. Ensuring that the hotel is supplied with all necessary provisions
2. Governing everyone in the stewarding department
3. Directing hotel services when necessary
These are just a few of his basic responsibilities. There are other responsibilities that a steward may have. It is important that a hotel steward develop the characteristics crucial to his job, so he will be able to deal with his responsibilities more effectively.
