Whatever you consume has a direct relation to your outward look and appearance. Both the food you eat and the beauty products and cosmetics you use contribute to health and appearance.

Just as junk food contributes to weight and health problems, most beauty products in the market are manufactured with substances that are toxic to the body.

Some cosmetic products contain harmful chemicals as preservatives to increase their shelf life. As a consumer, your health and well being comes first. Cosmetic companies do not care about that because they are looking to rake in high profits.

Many people get dazzled by TV ads showing skinny models with perfect skin. The aim of these adverts is to make you think that you need some products to look younger, skinnier and sexier.

This is outright misinformation and a marketing ploy which ought to be ignored. Some of these so called miracle remedies are in fact the worst culprits for the body. They are manufactured with questionable chemicals and preservatives that may impact negatively on your body.

Use of toxic substances on your hair, skin and nails poses risk not only externally but on your internal systems as well.

The most conscientious decision you can make regarding health and beauty products is to go natural. This translates to embracing natural supplements and beauty products.

The cosmetics industry has a powerful lobby group and is least regulated by the FDA. This requires caution and awareness of the products you use.

Even natural products are not to be wholly trusted. Some of these organic cosmetics contain chemical preservatives which counteract any positive gains that might have accrued from the natural ingredients.

It is vital to visit several heath food stores and purchase products that are labelled and certified as organic. Natural based products are the way to go if you are looking for good health, beautiful skin and hair.

Steer clear of products containing any of the chemicals listed below:

• Sodium lauryl sulphate- Toxic chemical which causes eye and scalp irritation. It also makes hair to tangle.

• Parabens- This group of chemicals are commonly used as preservatives in cosmetic products. They comprise of methyl, propyl, butyl and ethyl based products. These chemicals interfere with internal body systems and organs. The Environmental Protection Agency has linked parabens to the bodies’ endocrine system, the hypothalamus, ovaries and thyroid glands.

• Propylene/ butylenes glycol
• Diazolidinyl urea
• Synthetic colours and dyes
• Alpha-hydroxyl acids
• Diethanolamine/Triethanolamine

To avoid the risks associated with these chemicals, it is recommended you try out natural products and supplements. Natural products are not only loaded with nutrients they are also rich in anti-oxidants.

Supplements made with natural products like the acai berry have numerous heath and beauty benefits to the body.

This includes getting rid of cellulite, raising metabolism to help in weight control, keeping skin youthful and glowing and softening hair.

acai juice is also extracted from the berry and consumed to detoxify the body. This juice has many health benefits and scores high marks in the natural products arena.

So the next time you go shopping for heath and beauty products, why not try following the natural trail. You will not regret it.
