Don’t let a careless Christmas become an unhappy new year

There is sure to be plenty of temptation in the weeks following Christmas for adults and children alike to take their new ‘toys’ out for a run. Every year, hundreds of youngsters get new bikes, skateboards or rollerskates, and even the adults like to join in the fun, with recent crazes such as motorised scooters making their mark as popular ways to get around the local streets.

Of course, all those shiny new toys will have to be taken out for one, if not several, test runs. And for the first few trips on their new mode of transport, every user is sure not to be fully confident. And if our recent wintry weather hangs around, that brings more risks too. That’s just the sort of combination which is likely to lead to unintentional and unforeseen slips, trips and falls. And while such accidents are common, there are circumstances under which compensation may be payable.

Many instances arise every day of someone being injured through circumstances which they could not have foreseen. And the holiday period, with many people away from work, and perhaps going out to new places where there are many different things vying for their attention, is a peak time for mishaps of many kinds.

Having to keep passengers quiet, while watching the sat-nav for directions, or driving around looking for a parking space, requires a great deal of concentration which means that people have to take things easy if they are to spot all the risks and hazards around them. In hazard perception tests, it is regularly shown that people fail to spot at least some of a long list of potential problem situations, yet we are very rarely tested in this way. It could well be a shock to many people if we were.

In a perfect world, everyone would be fully aware of the risks their actions pose to other people. But the world really isn’t like that, and many people are hurt by someone else being in too much of a hurry, not knowing the full capabilities of their mode of transport, or simply ignoring a potential hazard or risk.
An accident in the road, or on the pavement, can happen in a split second, but the potential ramifications could last for much longer.

Making a claim for compensation in such circumstances is quick and straightforward, and there is plenty of advice available – including on any injuries suffered – to help someone who has been injured get the recompense which is rightfully due to them.

Anyone who thinks they might have a factory accident claim in an incident which has seen them receive an injury should consult a personal injury solicitor.
