Green tea is derived out of the leaves of a plant named sinensis which is a large shrub that is found in Asia, and the Middle East, and African countries. A wide variety of green tea is found depending on their growing conditions, processing ways and time of harvest. Green tea is processed via minimal oxidation from fresh leaves. Hence, green tea is not fermented and hence is rich in polyphenols and low in caffeine. These polyphenols are the main source that imparts a list of health benefits to green tea.

The polyphenols that are present in green tea are known to be more powerful than vitamin C. However, these polyphenols gives a somewhat bitter flavor to the tea. Besides, green tea is also rich in alkaloids namely theobromine, caffeine, and theophylline. These combine to work for its stimulant effects.

In the past few years, a number of research and reports have been prepared to learn the benefits of green tea on health. However, in the present day, researchers are earnestly studying about the benefits of green tea in preventing and treating diseases in human. The research work has proven that green tea can impart a number of health benefits. It is recommended that people drink about 10 ounces of green tea daily.

• Healthy heart: According to studies, green tea can assist in preventing atherosclerosis which is the buildup of plaque that ups the risk of heart disease. This is because polyphenols in green tea has the power to keep the blood vessels clear. Therefore your blood pressure also remains normal. Research has also proven that antioxidants in green tea can help keep your arteries clean and healthy. Besides, green tea can also lower cholesterol.

• Diabetes: Studies have shown that green tea can prevent Type I diabetes. In fact, it can slow its development after the diagnosis is made. Green tea is seen to assist in regulating glucose tolerance in your body.
