The 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution was probably one of the most historic events that ever happened to our country. This is where we gained our freedom and democracy from the Marcos regime after many years. Filipinos had enough of this so called “Martial Law” that President Marcos had implemented. Thousands of people marched to the streets of EDSA with the same purpose; to free themselves from enslavement and injustice. This is one of the events that we saw unity within Filipinos.

Some of the common faces that we see during today’s celebration are our former President Fidel V. Ramos and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile who both led the 1986 revolution. And of course who could forget our Late President Corazon Aquino, from this event became the first female president and was named as the icon of democracy. Also, some of the big names in the entertainment industry gathered to join this occasion. Ruffa Gutierrez, Ai –ai de las Alas and Kris Aquino are just few names of the many showbiz icons who participated.

Our youth, whether they took part of this event or not is very familiar with this celebration and event because i think it is the common historical event that is being told by our elders. Some people who participated during the revolution carried some of the memorabilia that they have of the People Power I revolution. Almost all of the people who joined the celebration wore yellow colored shirts, which we all know is the color for our late president Corazon Aquino. And of course the celebration won’t be complete without singing the national anthem of the People Power I movement which is “Magkaisa” and “Bayan Ko”.

Today’s Celebration was led by our President Noy Aquino ho is the son of the late President Cory Aquino and Ninoy Aquino who a lot of people considered as a national hero as well. Although today’s celebration was a working day, still many people joined this successful celebration. Many groups and organizations from all over the country participated in today’s event as one nation and as Filipinos.
