Electronic Assemblies

The electronics industry is a well known, highly developed and leading business activity spread across many countries worldwide. These days, electronics manufacturers have ultra modern facilities and apply the latest technology, methods and skills for supplying many electronic items that continue to get better, smaller and compact. The electronics manufacturing units have electronic assemblies that play an important role in the production of various products.

Providing superior and durable electronic goods at all times is necessary in a competitive market. Hence, it is mandatory to maintain high quality throughout the manufacturing process; from obtaining raw materials to delivering finished product. And only dependable and proficient companies can provide excellent electronic items.

Organizations offering electronic manufacturing services (EMS) use numerous manufacturing processes and technologies to supply diverse products. They have electronic assemblies that implement a multi-step procedure for manufacturing various electronic items available in the market. A typical process includes the following production stages:

The basic components such as resistors, capacitors and integrated circuits are initially manufactured. Integrated circuits are usually produced through the process of photolithography. And printed circuit boards (PCBs) are made using unique technology. The surface-mount components are mounted using surface-mount technology or through manual soldering and populated on both sides of a PCB. This includes applying a solder paste at the place where the components will be connected with the PCB tracks; placing the components using a pick and place device; and passing the PCB through a reflow oven.

Wave soldering or selective soldering technique is used for mounting through-hole components and connectors; they can also be hand-soldered. A large PCB panel is de-paneled into many separate, smaller PCBs for using them in a final product. The complete assembly then has to be cleaned and dried, using various techniques before connecting it to the power supply. The case-up process consists of applying a coating and final mounting of the de-paneled PCB in an enclosed unit.

Electronic assemblies are tested at various process steps like in-circuit testing of integrated circuits; visual inspection of components and joints; final assembly functional test for temperature, humidity, vibration, strain etc.
