The 2010 Emmy nominations came out today, and there are six great nominations for Best Actor in a Drama. The 2010 Emmy nominations are showcasing the best that television had to offer the past year, and it is very
clear that there were some well-written dramas. The question becomes whether someone will repeat as a winner in the category, or if there is a brand new winner in the 2010 Emmy nominations that will take home the trophy this year.
The 2010 Emmy nominations were all revealed on Thursday, July 8, and the 2010 Awards show will be telecast on the evening of Sunday, August 29. Until then, we will have plenty of opportunities to dissect the list of nominees that were provided.
The full list of 2010 Emmy nominations in the category of Lead Actor in a Drama Series are as follows: Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Matthew Fox (Lost), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), and Hugh Laurie (House). To say that any one of these men is a favorite to take home the award this year would be a rash statement, as all six of them have put in superb performances over the past year.
Kyle Chandler from Friday Night Lights (Coach Taylor) seems like a real outside chance to win the award, though, as the show had a staggered presentation that didn't receive the same publicity that the other five shows garnered during the year. That probably means the award will be decided between the other five, even though Chandler was great.
Bryan Cranston has won the award for Lead Actor in a Drama Series the last two years for his work on the F/X show Breaking Bad. Working in his favor is the fact that many critics thought he put in his best work on the show this past season, possibly bringing him a third straight win.
Then there is Matthew Fox, who finished out his run as Jack Shephard on the final season of Lost. It's entirely possible that it garners him extra votes simply because it is the last show.
Likewise, it is hard to count out the shock-filled season of Dexter with Michael C. Hall, the evolving character of House (Hugh Laurie) or the beloved Jon Hamm in AMC's Mad Men. Truly, this is
a year where the dramatic acting categories are going to be tough to figure out, and, in reality, any one of these men would be deserving of taking the trophy home in 2010.
