Fat Salmon

I prefer poetry
pushing a point
double-edged, deadly
sunk to the hilt
the thrust and parry
of new thought
civilization’s lifeblood
as rivers flowing to the sea
a confluence of ideas
like fat salmon returning home
to spawn in my head.

The winning authors, plus other selected poets who enter the contest, will be featured in the first edition of PhatSalmon The Journal, to be published in the fall of 2011. Authors will be showcased with a photo, their bio and several of their poems. Each author will also have the opportunity to provide the “backstory” behind the creation of their poems. These insights into the writer’s mind will be included in the publication and add interest for the readers.

The top three winners of the poetry contest will also have the chance to showcase their work in a professionally-marketed poetry reading. A team of professional writers and marketers will coach each winner to insure a successful event.

The final contest judge is M. L. Liebler – celebrated and internationally –known poet and professor of English at Wayne State University in Detroit. ML has supported grass-roots poetry endeavors his entire life, and knows better than anyone that great poetry can come from people in all walks of life. His most recent book – WORKING WORDS – Punching the Clock and Kicking Out the Jams is a celebration of the life and times of working class people across the country.
