Fake Identity Cards are they Illegal or Legal

The availability of fake identity card on the internet is vast with many company´s producing these cards. Most people assume fake identity cards are illegal but this isn´t necessarily the case. These cards are classed as novelty ID cards; fake ID card is just the industry term. Novelty ID cards are legal to buy and legal to sell as long as the person purchasing the fake driving licence for example does not use it for anything other than novelty purposes.

It is not illegal to have a fake ID card on your persons for example you can have a fake driving licence or fake student card in your purse or wallet and it be perfectly legal. Even if the fake ID looks similar to the original document as long as you are not using it for anything legal and it is in your purse as a novelty item you are not doing anything illegal. Most fake identity card websites have a disclaimer that the customer has to agree to before purchasing their novelty ID card. What you will be agreeing to is that you will not be using your fake identity card for anything other than for novelty purposes.

Fake ID cards purchased for uses other than novelty purposes are illegal and if you are caught you will be punished depending on the extent of the crime. These punishments can range from a small fine to a stint in jail. Unfortunately the law will have to have proof that by using a fake driving licence is being used for purposes other than novelty ID. If someone was caught using a fake ID for committing a crime like identity theft and this was proven then they would be committing fraud.

Company´s selling fake identity cards for novelty use are not breaking any laws but the company´s selling fake identity cards for people to sue to commit crimes are breaking the law. Unfortunately it is very hard to prove they are committing a crime unless they can be linked with the person using the fake ID to commit a crime. A word of advice would be not to purchase a fake identity cards like a fake driving licence if you are intending on using it for illegal reasons.
