For many potential employees, the hardest part in a job hunt is the interview. Interviews make people very nervous, because these may make or break one’s chances to get the job. The interview is where most employers assess a potential worker’s efforts to look prepared.

If you’re currently looking for a job, it might be useful to invest in corporate wear such as ties. Buying ties is necessary because these clothing items may speak well of your efforts and intentions. Ties also connote formality, and many interviewers may see this as a sign of respect for the company.

In case you’re wondering about the best tie to use for an interview, consider buying a black tie. A black tie may go well with any color, and you can match it with most button-down shirts. A black tie also expresses elegance and style. In maintaining the tie, you may want to try the following tips to help keep it looking new.

Don’t dry-clean the tie when it’s stained

Most people think that the best way to deal with stained black ties is to have them dry-cleaned. Dry-cleaning stained ties, however, may prove to be more harmful than helpful. The chemicals used in the dry cleaning process may only worsen the problem, because the chemicals may react with the stain. The better solution is to spray a stain removal substance on the ties and dab these with a clean paper towel to blot out any stains.

Don’t use regular detergent

Most store detergents may contain bleaching products that may affect colored clothing. If you use these detergents on your black ties, the color of the ties may bleed into other clothing items, and the ties themselves may become discolored. For best results, try a mild liquid detergent meant for colored clothes, because these can protect and disinfect your ties better.

Don’t machine-wash the tie

It’s really easy for anyone to simply throw their black ties in the washing machine because it’s convenient. However, when you do this, the ties might lose their shape because of all the tossing and turning that happens in a washing machine. For best results, hand-wash the ties so they retain their form.
