If you’ve read strategies on farming gil, most will tell you to farm Adamantoise for platinum ingots. This is a good source of gil, but dark matters cost 840k and a platinum ingot sells for 150k so you’re looking at 5 or 6 drops to get 1 dark matter. Well farming Shaolong Gui is a much faster way to obtain your dark matters apparently. I wish I knew this before I farmed Adamantoise for hours, but I assumed the drop rate on dark matters was as bad as trapezohedrons.

This is not the case even though dark matter is a rare drop. Shaolong Guis appear after completing a certain mission and replace the regular Adamancheild. Make sure you have a connoisseur catalog for this which seems to greatly help your chances of getting a dark matter. This video shows me killing 2 of these both dropping a dark matter, but I actually killed the 3rd one and got one also.
Equipment consists of 3 maxed out tier 3 weapons and genji gloves for the 2 commandos since I was doing upwards of 300k+ damage a hit. Earth and Daze resistance items help a lot for the stomps and the Bay attacks. Basically this is like any other hard fight. Use 3 SEN for the big attacks like Ultima and Quake and debuff the crap out of the enemy while buffing yourself. Deprotect is the big one for this and the other debuffs are just a bonus. 1 MED as Hope or Vanille should do fine although I used Hope because Vanille has the -ga versions of buffs which will overwrite Snow’s buffs wasting time.
