In a recent interview with Gizmodo, Christopher Blizzard, Director of Developer Relations and Open Source Evangelist at Mozilla spoke about the future of their browser in the modern Mobile browser wars.
Firefox which used to be backed by Google, is now facing direct competition from them on desktop and mobile in the form of Google Chrome. Mozilla who never got to releasing a client for Windows Mobile ( Fennec had some beta and alpha clients floating around ) while the OS was doing well for all those years is now blaming Microsoft for the restrictions on WP7 !!!
Christopher:…………We were going to do Windows Mobile because Windows Mobile really needed a good browser, but they shut down their platform.
[On Windows Phone 7] they said, ‘You can use stuff in Silverlight if you want, but you have to come through our app store, and we get to veto.’ We’re not going to bother. They’re gonna ship some version of IE, which is gonna be terrible…
Giz: It’s like a mutant version, based on IE7…
Christopher: The wonderful thing about the mobile web is the people like being able to use modern browser platforms and Microsoft’s gonna single-handedly gonna drag that back………..

I was a strong supporter or Firefox on Desktop. But with the Well, this is embarrassing, plaguing the software. ( Dont ask me to get rid of the plugins, that is the reason why I started using the browser in the first place ), I have started using Chrome and Firefox as my primary browser.
What do you guys think ? Is Mozilla making silly excuses for not developing a client for WP7 ? Do you guys still use Firefox as your main desktop browser ?
