Step One: The first thing you should bear in mind when you are creating a website is to buy a domain name. There are dozens of companies you can use for this and the cost is not great . The domain name (also called a URL), is the address of your website and can be anything up to 63 letters, or numbers long, but most people keep theirs pretty short. You should remember that the name is there to tell people something, so keep it short and simple (if you can). Using a descriptive name about what your site is for is helpful , eg www.my-home-made-fudge.com is a good example. It also means that it is easily-remembered , which is good for business.
Step Two: What to do now is to find a company to host your site. Often the company you bought the domain from will offer you this service . Charges should be fairly small. A host enables you to upload your website to the internet, so if you have no host, you have no website either. Do watch out, though, because some hosts charge much more than others. You want to find a host which has a a contact phone number if you have any problems. Also, try to avoid those that charge you monthly amounts. It doesn't sound a lot until you check out the annual total, then you realize what a lot if really does cost. Some hosts are quite cheap, so, if they have a contact phone number (maybe call it to try it out first ), give them a shot. Also, make sure that you need all the services that they offer, otherwise you may end paying for things you don't need and don't want.
Step Three: When you have chosen your domain name and a web host, your next step is to build your website. Now, in order to build your website on your own you will need to do one of a number of things. You could pay a large amount of money to get someone to do it for you. You could try to use a free online website builder (and the problem is that, although there are free website builders available on the internet, they are invariably not as flexible as one you have designed yourself). The third solution is exactly that; to build it yourself. Wait a minute , you say. I don't know anything about designing websites. Well, of course you don't. However, you can use Word, can't you? You can type?
You know what you want to say ? Well, then, Step Four has to be to find something that is cheap, easy, simply-explained and which will allow you to run off a web-page in a few minutes. You want one with pictures? Easy. Just like the other information you want, this is something else which you can get free on the internet. No problem. In fact, everything you want can
be had for nothing. Want video on your Home Page? Again, no problem. You want people to be able to pay
you while you're asleep? You want to deliver the goods to them that they have bought, automatically ?
Consider it done. It is all explained in easy to understand English:
