The independent security research and evaluation agency of the recent anti-virus software (NSS Labs) makes a test which reports that Free Microsoft Security Essential has better performance that Symantec Antivirus and Kaspersky ANtivirus which are Shareware.
Microsoft Security Essentials can block malicious software up to 75% and prevent 60% vulnerabilities, according to this test. From this point, we can say that MSE is better than Panda Internet Security 2011, Norton Internet Secutiry 2010, Kaspersky Internet Security 2011, ESET Smart Security, AVG Internet Security 9.
Here are specific data about anti-virus software, malware detection rates:
Panda Internet Security 2011 73.1%;
Symantec Norton Internet Security 2010 is 72.3%;
Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 is 71.3%;
ESET Smart Security 4 is 60%;
AVG Internet Security is 54.8%.
On the whole, Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security and [McAfee Internet Security have good performance on protecting from social engineering malware damage based on web. Trend Micro can shield 90.1% malicious software, but it can just block 19% vulnerabilities. McAfee antivirus software's malware blocking rate is 85.2% and 73% of the vulnerabilities. In third place of F-Secure Internet Security 2010's malware and vulnerabilities blocking are 80.4% and 75%.
