Vinpocetin is a mind boosting drug derived from from vincamine, an alkaloid found in the periwinkle plant. This wonderful mind power supplement was first synthesized and used for mind related disorders by European scientists in the 1980s in many of the clinical trials. The drug was shown to increase brain power in patients suffering from senile dementia.
Vinpocetine has a firm and potent mechanism of action to strengthen mental capacity with its active periwinke extract which is known to expand the capacity of vessels carrying blood, penetrate the blood-brain barrier, thereby increasing the brain blood flow and blood circulation inside the brain.
This enhanced blood circulation in the brain then makes oxygen readily available to the brain and that too in ample amounts to make brain cells use oxygen in the most optimum way thus making the red blood cells more pliable while preventing the aggregation of blood platelets.
Vinpocetine thus acts as anti ageing supplement with its anti oxidant properties which fight the free radical damage of the brain cells and prevent them from rapid and unnatural decay and death. By increasing the brain blood flow vinpocetine rejuvenates the brain cells filling them with health and vitality while clearing out the debris.
Since the main reason behind senile dementia is the rapid death and decay of brain cells in an abnormal manner leading to progressive memory loss and decline of mental abilities, vinpocetine by acting like an anti ageing medicine can increase brain power by proving the much needed oxygen and glucose to the starved brain cells.
The recommended dose for this amazing mind boosting drug to treat senile dementia is 5-10 mg taken in divided doses spread over a day’s time. However you should start with a low dose and gradually build up to a higher dose once your body gets accustomed to this medicine.
The effects of this medicine start to appear only after an hour of its ingestion. Though the medicine is otherwise completely safe to take without causing any serious or life threatening side effects, you must be careful with the dosage as a dose higher than recommended or higher than your body can tolerate can result in some unwanted complication.
To avoid this, its always advisable to take vinpocetine in doses prescribed by your doctor. The few mild adverse effects of this drug include nausea, headache, stomach upset and light-headedness.
