Coffee is the common man’s gold, and like gold, it brings to every person the feeling of luxury and nobility. Think about the last cup of coffee you drank. Was it a gourmet coffee blend from Starbucks Coffee? Or maybe a pot you brewed at home such as Maxwell House?

According to the International Coffee Organization, the amount of coffee consumed worldwide throughout 2009 reached roughly 132 million bags. Nearly 21.5 million of those bags accounts to the consumption in just United States, which is more than any other single country. Of those coffee drinkers, most will admit knowing very little about the history and origin of the tantalizing beverage.

Gourmet coffee is generally considered to be the finest 10% of the coffee grown. It also generally means that you are getting Arabica coffee and Robusta coffee. Arabica coffee is considered to be better in quality of taste than Robusta coffee. Gourmet coffee is rather selective term really pushed when coffee shops starting popping up selling higher quality coffees and coffee drinks.

Gourmet coffee is available in many of your favorite flavours including: almond, amaretto, Irish, French vanilla, Swiss mocha, vanilla, chocolate, mint, peppermint, pumpkin spice and just about anything else you can imagine!

There are gourmet flavored coffees that are caffeinated and those that are decaffeinated. If you have a sensitive stomach, you can even find gourmet coffee that is low in acid, making it a gentle. Arabica coffee ranks very high among the Specialty Coffee Association of America, which pretty much sets the standards applied to all gourmet coffee drinks.
