Occasionally people go on holiday and either fall ill or injure themselves, a lot of people are familiar with the trips and falls that people will often claim for but there are many other potential claims you could make if you have suffered in any way during your holiday. Some holidaymakers may not be aware of the situations where you can claim, believing that their only hope is to complain to the tour operator which can often lead to less than satisfactory results. Below are just a few examples of claimable incidents that can occur whilst on holiday: Illness Illnesses such as food poisoning or more exotic maladies can occur when on holiday as we encounter bugs and illnesses that aren’t common to the UK. Food poisoning is a common claim and can occur most frequently when you eat in an environment of poor hygiene or standards. These claims can often occur on cruise ship holidays or all inclusive holidays and can be a widespread problem with hundreds of guests coming down with the illness. Cruises/At Sea Food poisoning caused by Salmonella, E Coli and other gastric illnesses are common on cruise ships but there are other seafaring claims such as collisions or fires on board that can negatively affect your cruise ships holiday too. Day trips and excursions on the sea could also be marred by accidents and so these are claimable against the excursion operator or your travel agent if the trip was organised through them. Road Traffic Accidents A lot of holidaymakers will hire a car or go on a coach trip when on holiday to visit the surrounding area away from the resort they’re staying in but just like back here at home there is always the chance that a road accident can occur and injuries such as whiplash and other associated injuries can occur which can result in time at a hospital. Claims for road traffic accidents are similar to those here in the UK so you may need to get the other party’s details and your car hire companies too if there was a fault with the hire car. Sporting Injuries Often when on holiday people will enjoy themselves with some form of activity or sport such as jet skiing, paragliding and other activities, there are usually safety features and guidelines in place but this doesn’t mean accidents can’t happen. If you were to be seriously injured during the course of taking part in these activities then you will likely have hospital bills and fees to pay which compensation can help cover. When away on holiday you should still be aware of potential accidents and make sure if you have any grounds for legitimate holiday accident claims that you contact professional personal injury solicitors to discuss whether you are entitled to compensation
