“I haven’t heard from my sponsor ever since I joined the business.”   “I tried calling this person to ask about the program, but I haven’t received a call back from them and that was about a week ago.”   “I left this person like 2 messages and sent emails, and they never got back to me.”   "I asked my sponsor a question and the email response I got back was, "Figure it out."."   A key component to the long-term success of a leader in the home-based business industry is “committed leadership”. It’s not uncommon to hear about some leaders not responding to other people’s inquires about getting into the business. It’s also not uncommon to hear how some people, after they have joined never hear from their sponsor again. We sat down with Joel Acosta, a top leader in Dan Miller’s Home Income Alliance , who receives his share of calls and emails from people who are not happy with the sponsor they joined, and asked him a few questions about how important leadership is in the home-based business industry.   Q: To this point, who has been your “leader” and how has this affected you and your business.   Joel: Most definitely I consider my leader or my mentor to be Dan Miller. He’s really taught me a lot of things, especially when it comes to online marketing obviously. I’ve also built a very good relationship with him and even myself as a leader, I need to have that person to talk to, to keep me on track and stay focused. Just like people looking to me to provide that guidance and motivation, that’s what Dan Miller is for me. It’s really great to know I can have that relationship with my mentor and know they are going to be there to help and care about what I’m doing. I couldn’t see myself not providing that leadership to those who have gone into the business with me.   Q: What are some things you try and do, to take your leadership further than just responding when your team needs help?   Joel: My training site is an important part of my leadership. It gives people access to the things I implement to my marketing. There are certain ways I go about my marketing and it’s important my team has access to this so it can help them develop their own ways of implementing things. I also send my team a weekly email. I like to do this because it gives me a chance to give them any updates on the program, what’s working well, those types of things. I also do it to make sure they know I am in contact and that they are not left alone. Some people don’t understand how important these things are. I take this business and leadership very seriously; it is what I do on a full-time basis and I know it is the right thing for me to do as a leader.   Q: Any advice you can give about leadership to those looking to get involved in Home Income Alliance or any online business for that matter?   Joel: If there is anything I would stress about leadership, it’s making sure you are committed to your business, in all aspects. Answering people’s questions, responding to emails in a timely manner, answering your phone or calling people back if they’ve left a message and providing support to the people who go into the business with you. It’s these things that build a leader’s credibility. You’re also somewhat of a role model for your team, because they are looking to you for guidance. Also, if you look at Home Income Alliance ’s compensation plan, you want your team to do well because of the overrides.
