Your bedroom is a haven away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Renovating or remodelling your home is the perfect time to create new bedrooms for yourself and possibly the rest of the family. But how do you decide which elements to include in the new room? And what are the most important features of bedrooms?

For fresh ideas, it’s a good idea to browse through a design magazine looking for examples of the latest trends in bedroom layouts and features. If traditional styles are more your style, think back to bedrooms you have stayed in or seen in your travels. You can recreate the feeling of other rooms by echoing the colours, textures and layout. From contemporary to classic, new bedrooms offer a clean slate for you to design and decorate.

Lighting Sets the Mood

Although you may not think of it, the lighting installed in your bedroom makes a major difference to the overall atmosphere. Think about how you can install lighting in creative ways – formal chandeliers in the centre of the room are dramatic and romantic, while pot lighting along the walls helps to deliver indirect lighting that is bright enough for any task.

Pack those typical bedside table lamps into the boxes and opt for built in lighting that will add flair as well as illumination. Remember that you’ll need to create soft lighting for new bedrooms, as well as task lighting is certain areas like a desk or make up table.

Connect With the Bath

If you can, installing an ensuite bath is a highly valuable addition for any bedroom. Even a cloakroom style bathroom will be handy, although if you can design for the space to include a luxurious soaker tub, so much the better.

If space does not permit an ensuite, think about connecting the bedrooms in another way. Cheater doors that lead from the bedroom directly into the main bathroom are almost as good as a private bath. Be sure to install locks on both sides of the bathroom to bedroom door, so that privacy can always be maintained.

Finishes That Speak to You

Remember that your bedroom should be a highly personal space. Since you will be spending a fair amount of time in this room enjoying rest and relaxation, be sure that it will reflect your personality. Choose your favourite colours, textures that feel comfortable to you and décor that reflects your personality. That way you will feel at home in the new room. If new bedrooms for the kids are in the plans, get them involved in the design process to ensure their personal style is expressed properly.

New bedrooms are a home improvement that focuses on self-indulgence. Let your personality show, design for the perfect lighting and create handy access to the bathroom. Then let your new sleeping space welcome you in for a good rest.

New bedrooms and designs are great to get and they form the basis of a welcoming house, together with the right type of cheap double glazed windows.
