As of today, 1 billion persons in the world have an account on Facebook, the social networking giant, created by a person looking for friends. That is just Facebook; there are millions of millions of people that are into other social-networking sites, where they spend almost half of their day being besieged, unconsciously, by tons and tons of advertisements, from companies using social media marketing tools.

Creating a page in Facebook :
It is not just the statistics and the convenience of these social-networking sites that attracted the attention of the brilliant minds occupying the chairs in the conference rooms of the world’s biggest companies; above all it is free. Companies and businesses around the world realized the power and effectiveness of these social media marketing tools and how they can reach and advertise to a large number of persons without spending that much. Here are some of these so-called Social Media Marketing Tools :

- Companies usually create a page in Facebook, which is armed with all the information about them, their products, and services. By doing this, they are actually starting to treat themselves as individual entities, same as with humans. And what is a better way of advertising yourself than having many friends, these companies begin to accumulate “friends,” customers satisfied with them. Everyone, as a customer, stumbling upon the page of my favorite restaurant will surely hit the “Like Button”, to express approval and satisfaction. Their friends will then see what they did and will begin to consider going to that same restaurant the next time they will go to a dinner. Presto!! They have another satisfied customer and tons of “future “customers. Just by clicking a single button on a page, people influenced the minds of their friends and helped their favorite restaurant gain another customer. So far, this is the most effective part of all social media marketing tools.

Creating an account in Twitter:
- Companies use the same Social Media Marketing tools they used in Facebook and in Twitter, except for the fact that they don’t create a page by themselves, but rather use other prominent, famous individuals, who have armies of followers awaiting their twits. By paying and making these persons twit favorably about their company, product or services, they are indirectly influencing the buyers to buy. Since the person is famous and presumed to be credible by his followers, they will follow his advice and will now begin to patronize the said products. These social media marketing tools use the influence of persons over other individuals, in order to attract customers.
Stumbleupon:
- The idea behind such Social Media Marketing tools is the sharing of files and data between friends. One is asked to bookmark articles, sites, pages and other stuff online that people will stumble upon. By doing this, they are actually encouraging their friends or other people they might know to go and visit these sites. They, in turn, will use these social media marketing tools themselves and help spread the influence, as well as the bookmarked information. Websites profit from this by having more visitors to their sites.
